The Underwater Channel

The Underwater Channel (UWC) is the creation of Emmy award-winning Producer/Director Nicholas Claxton. The idea for a free broadband channel dedicated to the underwater world came about when Nicholas Claxton was producing a television documentary about Red Sea coral reefs in 2006.

Nicholas explains “after spending many years making television documentaries for some of the world’s major broadcasters, including several hard-hitting films in South Africa, Palestine and the USA the opportunity to look at a very different world - underwater - became irresistible”.

In May 2007 a trial launch of UWC with a selection of underwater videos was greeted with terrific enthusiasm from the diving community. Now, UWC wants to unite that global diving community with the programs, features and personalities that truly understand the magical appeal and crucial significance of the oceans. In the process it is also our aim to tempt ‘armchair divers’ – those who have yet to take the plunge – out of their seats and into the water!

On UWC, Splash! is presented by the Faces of the Channel all of whom are experienced divers and engaging characters. Splash!  combines bite-sized topics, interviews, reviews, resort reports, a photography master class and features of international interest. The Faces of UWC each bring regular reports from their respective geographic bases.

Each month Blue Eye FX Productions deliver a report from the Red Sea featuring World Champion Freediver Sara Campbell – one of the Faces of UWC. We have just completed filming for the Sled Diving report where Sara trained with freediving legend Umberto Pelizzari in a discipline she told her parents she would never try! Tune in to The Underwater Channel to see yet another tadpole on speed!
